What PostPen does on Instagram
- Connect once. Connect Instagram on the Social Accounts page in PostPen. PostPen posts to an Instagram professional account linked to a Facebook Page you manage. Your agent never sees the token.
- Your agent picks Instagram per post.
list_destinationsreturns your Instagram account with an id likeinstagram:<id>, andsave_drafttakes it indestinations. - Carousels. Attach up to 10 JPEG images and PostPen publishes them as one carousel post, each with its alt text.
- JPEG copies in the Composer. Add a PNG, WebP or GIF in PostPen's Composer and it makes a JPEG copy for Instagram (transparent parts become white, a GIF becomes its first frame). Your other networks get the original.
- Checked before it's scheduled. Instagram needs an image or a video on every post. If one is missing, or an image isn't a JPEG,
save_draftsays so innetwork_problems, andschedule_postrefuses the post until it's fixed. - One calendar. Instagram posts sit next to your other networks on the PostPen calendar, where you can edit, move or delete them before they go out.

FAQ
Why does my Instagram post need a JPEG?
Instagram only takes JPEG images through its publishing API. In PostPen's Composer you don't need to do anything: a PNG, WebP or GIF gets a JPEG copy for Instagram, and every other network gets your original. An agent attaching images through the tools should send JPEGs for Instagram; save_draft says so in network_problems when it doesn't.
Can I post to a personal Instagram account?
PostPen posts to an Instagram professional account linked to a Facebook Page you manage, the kind Instagram lets apps publish to.
Does PostPen read Instagram analytics?
Yes. For the posts PostPen publishes on Instagram, the Instagram dashboard in PostPen shows views, reach, likes, comments, shares and saves, plus your follower count. Your agent reads the same numbers with get_post_stats and get_insights.
