What PostPen does on YouTube
- Connect once. Connect YouTube on the Social Accounts page in PostPen and sign in with Google. PostPen connects that account's channel. Your agent signs in to PostPen, never to Google, and never sees your YouTube token.
- One video per post. Each post uploads one video to your channel. The post text becomes the video description.
- The video's settings.
save_drafttakes ayoutubeobject with the video'stitle,privacy(public, unlisted or private; public unless you say otherwise),tags,category(People & Blogs unless you pick another) andmade_for_kids. Without a title, PostPen uses the first line of the text. - Custom thumbnail. A JPEG or PNG up to 2MB, set right after the upload. YouTube allows it on normal videos, not Shorts, and only on channels verified at youtube.com/verify. If YouTube refuses it, the video still goes out and the post says why.
- Video or Short, your choice.
youtube_formatpicks a normal video or a Short for each post. A Short has to be vertical or square and 3 minutes or less; PostPen says so before scheduling when the video doesn't fit. - Checked before it's scheduled. If the post has no video, has images, or the title is too long,
save_draftsays so innetwork_problems, andschedule_postrefuses the post until it's fixed. - One calendar. YouTube uploads sit next to your other networks on the PostPen calendar, where you can edit, move or delete them before they go out.
You can do the same by hand: the Composer has fields for the format, title, privacy, tags, category, made for kids and thumbnail.

Your agent calls list_destinations to find your channel (an id like youtube:<id>), saves the draft with the video in media, the channel in destinations and the title, privacy, tags and category in youtube with youtube_format set to short, then calls schedule_post. You see the upload on your calendar right away. The same post can go to Instagram, Threads or X with its own text in network_text.

The numbers PostPen reads
For the videos PostPen uploads, Analytics in PostPen shows views, likes and comments, plus your channel's subscriber count. Your agent reads the same numbers with get_post_stats and get_insights.
FAQ
Can my agent make YouTube Shorts?
Yes. Choose Short for the post (youtube_format: "short", or Short in the Composer) and attach a vertical or square video of 3 minutes or less. "View on YouTube" in PostPen then opens it in the Shorts player.
Can PostPen post images or Community posts to YouTube?
No. PostPen uploads videos only. A post going to YouTube needs exactly one video and no images or PDF.
Does my agent see my Google password or YouTube token?
No. PostPen keeps the YouTube connection on its server, and no tool accepts or returns a token for any network. Disconnecting the channel in PostPen also revokes PostPen's access at Google.
